God Has Shown His Love
Humanity has always known that there is something, or someone, greater than themselves behind the running of our world; to which they refer as god. Consequently, throughout history there have been many religion’s and philosophy’s teaching their version of god or, even many gods. Each religion and philosophy has their own rules and practices for their members to follow in order to please their god.
Unlike the other worldly philosophy’s, The Bible presents to the world a unique understanding of The One True God; establishing Him as the Creator of our world opening with the words: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” In Genesis 1:27-28 the Bible answers the question concerning the creation of humanity: “27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
God has shown His Love throughout history giving commandments by which we should live. Although God gave men and women free will, many rebelled, creating conflicts and suffering in our world. In His Love for humanity, The Almighty promised to send The Anointed One, who would show the way and bring Redemption for all who turn to God in repentance. The prophet Isaiah foretold the miraculous birth of this Anointed One giving Him a unique name: “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)
The New Testament, records the birth and ministry of Jesus the Messiah, which translates Anointed, or Christ. When recording the birth of Jesus, Matthew 1:22-23 repeats Isaiah’s prophecy giving the meaning of the unique name: “22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
One of the most loved passages in The Bible expresses God’s love shown to humanity through Jesus where it states: “16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17) Calvary was the place where God’s love was shown to the world through the atoning sacrificial death of Jesus, followed by His miraculous resurrection.
First John 4:9-12 articulates further God’s love: "In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us."
I do pray that you have experienced the love of God in your life. It is a love that changes a person bringing peace with the knowledge of sins forgive. Saul of Tarsus, who was a persecutor of the early church is a good example. After he had this life changing experience, he became a dedicated follower of Jesus and, as Paul, wrote in Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God has done His part, now it is up to you and I to respond.
Today, let us give thanks for our Heavenly Father’s love shown through Jesus.
