Tell Me Shepherd
Tell me shepherd, what did you see on that night when angels filled the night sky proclaiming the wonderful news "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."? (Luke 2:11) What did you see when you want seeking the Child, was Messiah born in a palace grand, or did you find Him laying in a humble manger? What a privilege to have been there and seen the Christ Child - shepherds from the fields greeting the Lamb of God.
Tell me shepherd, did you see The Lord in later years as He walked the dusty roads proclaiming the Kingdom of God? Maybe you were among the people that He reached out and touched with healing hands. What a blessing to have seen Lazarus walk out from his tomb, or, were you there when the crowd welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem? "Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!" "Hosanna in the highest heaven!" (Mark 11: 8-10)
Tell me shepherd, were you there when the people cried "Crucify him! Crucify him!"? (Luke 23:21) Many people witnessed Jesus carry a cross through the streets of Jerusalem, then out the gate where only a few days earlier He had been welcomed with palm branches. Golgotha's hill awaited the Lamb of God where The Almighty would bring reconciliation through Messiah’s sacrifice, "and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." (Colossians 1:20)
Tell me shepherd, what did you think when you heard the reports of the empty tomb? Some said that the body had been stolen, while His followers claimed that Jesus had risen. Did you remember the words of the psalm concerning Messiah "For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption."? (Psalm 16:10) Did it cause you to recall the angels message those many years ago "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord." Tell me shepherd did you believe?
Today, let us praise God for Messiah born in Bethlehem, Jesus The Lord.
